Chris Baskin and Kevin Murphy met in the fall of 1981. They formed the duo of Baskin and Murphy soon after and started playing small clubs and venues throughout the Berkshires and Southern Vermont. They soon branched out to include New England as well as the Albany, Saratoga and Lake George area of upstate New York.
Chris and Kev continued to evolve their sound with thousands of performances at colleges, music festivals, and clubs both large and small. Their travels took them to Upstate New York, throughout New England, Florida and ultimately the Caribbean. Baskin and Murphy became known for their tight vocals, fantastic harmonies and soaring guitar work.
They have opened for many national bands.... The Stompers, NRBQ, Jonathan Edwards, Moe Dixon, and Larry Coryell to name a few.
Originally an all acoustic guitar duo, Baskin and Murphy's sound has changed and developed through the past 27 years.
With the advent of digital technology and the introduction of computer driven sound reinforcement, Chris and Kev have grown with the ever changing music scene, by developing and producing their own backing tracks. This enables them to perform a wide range of musical styles without the encumbrances of a large ensemble of musicians and singers, while at the same time allowing them to play "from the heart" creating moving, musical moments on-Stage.
The instrumental backing tracks that you hear have been carefully produced note for note by Baskin and Murphy. All vocal leads and harmonies are performed live on the stage, as well as all guitar work.
Careful attention has especially been paid when it comes to the quality of the equipment and instruments used in their performances. This enables them to provide a full spectrum of beautifully blended music that captures the heart and soul of whatever song they play, and delivers an upbeat and positive, high energy sound.
Playing a wide selection of Choice Classic Rock, Reggae, Blues, Light Rock, Country Rock, and Original Rock and Roll, Baskin and Murphy provide music for all types of venues.
